This manual is organized in sequence in order to guide prospective buyers through the entire process of finding and inspecting a used vehicle. If you follow the process, you will become familiar with the vehicle before you purchase it.

We suggest that you read the entire manual before you begin your quest. Each section concentrates on one issue, and includes a checklist of questions to consider. There are checklists for determining the type of vehicle you want, finding that vehicle, inspecting the body and the interior, taking the road test, and bringing the car to a service technician for a final inspection. We do encourage prospective buyers to get a trained service technician’s opinion on a vehicle after they have narrowed down their choices by means of the checklists and have made the appropriate notes.

*Of course, vehicles differ in terms of their make, model, year, and types off accessories and components they contain, so not all the items on the checklists will apply to every individual vehicle you inspect.

Use the checklists to focus your areas of interest and record the information you receive. Disregard the questions that do not pertain to the vehicle you are inspecting. The lists are general, buy they do give you guidelines to follow. If you think of a question that is not listed, make note of it in the Comments section that follows each list.

If you feel intimidated by the number of questions shown, select those that are the most important to you. You may wish to ask a friend to help you in you feel that your knowledge of automobiles is limited.
