Bulletin Board I Ain't Afraid Of No Slug !!!!! It started in the '70s. A new breed appeared on the planet spawned by the overwhelming desire for good gas mileage... at any COST. It reared it's head in many forms: the Volvo station wagon, the Volkswagen Thing, the Ford Pinto MPG, climaxing with the creation of the Chevette diesel and the diesel Vanagon. Clots in the mainstream of highway navigation. Blockage diametrically opposed to the American way of life and freedom. But for the efforts of a few dedicated young warriors, these slugs of the American highway might have had there way. They were men who lived on 114-octane TORCO RACE FUEL and breathed the very air through twin-rotored 8-71 GMC superchargers. Men with the foresight to see the demented ways of these sluggish machines and the damage they could do to the American psyche. These slugs were dulling the senses of the American public, slowly rocking them to sleep with the gentle thud of highway expansion strips on A78-13 bias-ply blackwall tires. Few would ever have the chance to know the power of the God of Almighty Acceleration. This group was dedicated to 0-to-60 times in the four-second range and skid pad marks of 0.85 or better, and had the background knowledge to get that kind of performance from any car, Chevette diesel or not. They were the "SLO-CAR BUSTERS." |
