Introduction to the SVT Mustang Cobra
In 1993, Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) unveiled the first ever SVT Cobra. Based on Ford’s popular Fox Body style Mustang, this Cobra boasted a 5.0 liter engine that pumped out 235 horses and 280 lbs of torque. The Cobra was born, and quickly made a name for itself on the streets and in the public’s mind as what American Muscle should look like. Fast forwarding 16 years to 2009 finds the Cobra well cemented in American culture and "car guys’" garages everywhere.
It was in 2003, however, that a supercharger was added to the Cobra to make it the most powerful SVT Cobra to ever roll out of the factory. On February 7, 2002 the new Cobra - nicknamed the "Terminator"- first debuted to the public at the Chicago Auto Show.

The 2003/04 Mustang Cobras are also known as, or nicknamed, "Terminators". This is due to the fact that they were designed by the Ford SVT, led by John Coletti, to be the end all answer to the question of who was superior on the road in its class (and even well above it!). During design and testing, SVT didn't want any information to leak out to competitors that a new Cobra was under construction, so the code name of "Terminator" was born to represent the project.
